SHADOWS JOURNEY. CHAPTER 1 – Day 6

Days pass. Eventually, after two days of peace—barring one little bird which had disturbed the quiet but had been company.

All the same on this long walk—his paws finally hit the dewy soft valley dirt. You know proper muck, really. A shock to the system. From mud and sludge and a stinking tunnel of rusting iron bars to semi-solid grass and reed. A claw-clean might be needed later, he thought.

It is the heavy scent of cloying, rotting sweet leaves.

The woods were just swallowing him up with that sweet smell of jasmine. As he walked, the orange haze cascaded through the trees, through the oaks, and shadows danced across his black coat. He felt like a cheap disco was taking place on his back. He had seen the thing called “disco” but had since blotted the noise from memory.

Stiffness from lying so long, then walking even longer,

It was now easing. The “sportiness” was returning; he did not pant any longer like an overheated engine. His senses and instincts had also started to behave normally.

Every twig was back to being a warning as it snapped underfoot; every rustle of scrub an interest, a watcher, or a threat hiding—even, dare he say, a native dinner. He was no longer an “illegal” in a drainpipe anymore. He was a shadow in wait, and he was ready to claim his lot.

Thank you I/we appreciate your visit it’s tough to get going.
